Website security? It’s more important than ever!
It seems a common misconception that it’s expensive to have a security certificate running on your website. Truth be told, this just isn’t the case – in fact, there are some free services out there to use. You need to know where to look or have a trusted digital specialist do it for you ;)
In recent times we have seen an ever increasing focus on issues such as data security, hacking and personal data theft. And yet, with the personal data of their visitors and customers at risk, many businesses still aren’t making security a priority.
Google’s latest update
With the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May this year and the increased security measures introduced by Google, it’s now time for website owners to take the appropriate steps to secure their content. Since the latest update, Google now warns users if a website is not secure. They also recently confirmed that having a secure/valid SSL certificate running on a site will help with search engine ranking – what’s not to lose.
So there is now a very compelling case for you to secure your website with an SSL certificate as soon as practically possible. Doing this will protect your visitors and ensure you don’t garner unwanted attention from website hackers.
How do you know whether your site currently has SSL?
There are a few ways to tell whether your website (or any website) has SSL.
All you have to do is look at a website’s URL once you’ve entered it into the URL bar. Does it contain “https://” with that added “s,” or does it contain “http://” without an “s”? Websites that have SSL contain that extra “s.” You can also enter any URL into this SSL Checker from HubSpot, and it’ll tell you whether it’s secure without having to visit that site.
If your website is not secure, it's really something you should now consider.
